Workshop / History
The original workshop was in Leseringen,Germany, where between 2015 and 2018 prototyping and design development occurred, steam-boxes were built and re-built and re-sized to accommodate longer lengths of timber. The original milling saw was a 165mm diameter Bosch Skill Saw that was mounted under a work bench. Over this period European Oak, Birch and Cherry were the primary species we used. In 2017 we had our first market stall in Hanover at the Selbst-Gemacht Market in Lindon. In 2018 we moved permanently back to New Zealand and set up in an existing wood workshop in Rockville, Golden Bay.
We began experimenting with steam bending NZ native timbers, and explored the exotic options that were commonly grown in the Tasman Region. The Nelson Saturday Market became a regular event for us to display the lamps and connect with locals, travelers and enthusiastic wood workers. In 2022 we moved to Onekaka, Golden Bay, and setup a home workshop where we sand, steam, assemble, oil, wire and package the lamps. We still use the Rockville workshop, for dressing and milling the timber strips. If you would like to visit us, please email us: fayewilliamslamps@gmail.com
